A visitor who measures the tote already sitting by the front door has answered a question Petco Park does not ask. The San Diego ballpark of the Padres does not publish a bag limit. It publishes a prohibition, and then three ways around it.

The clear box of 12 x 6 x 12 inches is the one thirteen Western venues publish, and Petco Park also requires a single compartment, read September 2026. A tote that measures correctly and carries two zips fails on a clause no tape measure reads.
Two people can walk the same block of Park Blvd with bags of identical size and get different answers at the gate. One bought a single pocket clear tote. The other bought a clear daypack with a front pouch.
The Petco Park bag rule opens with a prohibition and names three exceptions
Petco Park will prohibit bags with the exception for single compartment clear plastic bags not exceeding 12 x 6 x 12 inches and infant and medical bags, plus clutches and purses no larger than 5 x 7 inches, read September 2026. The rule begins with a refusal and reaches a size only inside its exceptions.
Three objects make up the whole allowance, and they are not variants of one another. A single compartment clear plastic bag inside 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Infant and medical bags, named as an exception with no dimension attached. A clutch or purse no larger than 5 x 7 inches.
Everything outside those three falls at the opening clause rather than at a measurement. A canvas tote, a drawstring sack, a camera bag and a backpack all fail on the same sentence, and none of them fails because of its size, according to Petco Park, read September 2026.
Anaheim writes its rule the same way, and the gap between the two is the useful part. Angel Stadium prohibits all bags, backpacks and other carriers, then admits a handbag of 12 x 12 inches with a single zipper closure or flap, a clear bag of 12.75 x 6.5 x 12.75 inches and medically necessary items, read September 2026. Both open with a refusal. Only one of them puts a compartment count on the clear bag.
A limit invites a measurement. A prohibition invites a shopping list.
The single compartment clause is what makes a shared box a San Diego rule
Petco Park admits a single compartment clear plastic bag not exceeding 12 x 6 x 12 inches, read September 2026. The three numbers travel across the West. The compartment clause does not.
Thirteen Western venues publish the same clear box of 12 by 6 by 12 inches, read September 2026: Chase Field, State Farm Stadium, Snapdragon Stadium, Allegiant Stadium, Levi’s Stadium, Dodger Stadium, the Kia Forum, SoFi Stadium, BMO Stadium, Rose Bowl Stadium, Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park and Petco Park. A tote bought for a Sunday in Inglewood clears the San Diego measurement without a second look.
What does not clear it is the clause the Padres attach. A clear backpack with a laptop sleeve is a two compartment bag. A clear tote with a zipped interior pocket is a two compartment bag. Both sit inside the box and both sit outside the rule, according to Petco Park, read September 2026.
Lumen Field prints the same three numbers and caps a clear backpack at no more than 2 pockets, read September 2026, which admits a bag the San Diego gate refuses. SoFi Stadium prints the same three numbers and asks instead for full transparency, with no tint, no hologram and no print, read September 2026, set out in our reading of the SoFi Stadium transparency clause. One box, three second sentences, three different shopping trips.
The box is a purchase. The clause is the reason the purchase can still be wrong.
The Petco Park clutch measures 5 by 7 inches and appears at no other Western gate
Clutches and purses no larger than 5 x 7 inches enter Petco Park, read September 2026. No other venue Lot Opens reads from source publishes that pair of numbers, so a small bag bought to satisfy a different Western gate is being judged here against a rule it was not built for.
Published small bag sizes across the West do not converge on anything. Allegiant Stadium, Levi’s Stadium, SoFi Stadium, Rose Bowl Stadium, Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park all set 4.5 x 6.5 inches. The Kia Forum sets 9 x 6 inches and does not ask for transparency. Dodger Stadium sets 5 x 8 x 2 inches. Crypto.com Arena sets 5 x 9 x 1 inches. Climate Pledge Arena sets 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches, and Honda Center holds every bag and purse to 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches on an Anaheim Ducks night. The San Diego number is 5 x 7 inches, and nobody else publishes it.
Two dimensions is all the Padres give. The clutch appears as 5 x 7 with no depth at all, read September 2026, the same silence the Kia Forum leaves on its 9 x 6 clutch and Lumen Field leaves on its 4.5 x 6.5. Nothing in the wording says the depth is free, and nothing says a limit exists.
Anyone who owns one clutch for the whole West owns one that is wrong somewhere.
Five Western gates decide part of a bag by counting, and Petco Park counts compartments
Five Western venues decide part of a bag by counting rather than by measuring, read September 2026, and each counts a different object: pockets at Lumen Field, compartments on the clear bag at Petco Park, compartments on a backpack substitute at Chase Center, closures at Angel Stadium and compartments on a diaper bag at T-Mobile Park.
| Venue and issuer, read September 2026 | What the gate counts | Where it stops | What a correct measurement does not buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petco Park, San Diego | Compartments on the clear plastic bag | 1 compartment | A two pocket clear tote inside 12 x 6 x 12 inches |
| Lumen Field, Seattle | Pockets on a clear backpack | 2 pockets | A three pocket clear daypack inside the same box |
| Chase Center, San Francisco | Compartments on a drawstring bag or a fashion backpack purse | 1 compartment | Any conventional backpack, refused there by category |
| Angel Stadium, Anaheim | Zipper closures or flaps on a handbag of 12 x 12 inches | 1 closure | A two zip purse at exactly the published size |
| T-Mobile Park, Seattle | Compartments on a diaper bag, with the child present | 1 compartment | A two compartment diaper bag inside 12 x 6 x 12 inches |
San Diego sits at the strict end of that group for the object most visitors actually plan to carry. Its count lands on the clear bag itself, while T-Mobile Park applies its count only to a diaper bag and the Anaheim ballpark applies its count only to the opaque handbag, read September 2026.
Winner for a group carrying a lot: Chase Center, on volume. Its ceiling of 14 x 6 x 14 inches is bigger than the San Diego box, transparency is not required, and the criterion is cubic inches rather than paperwork, read September 2026. A conventional backpack still fails there by category, which our reading of the Chase Center single compartment rule follows through the East Entrance. Winner for a visitor carrying almost nothing: Petco Park, because a clutch of 5 x 7 inches clears the gate with no compartment question attached to it. Loser in both scenarios: whoever bought a clear backpack, which Lumen Field admits at 2 pockets and the Padres refuse.
A count survives repacking. A measurement does not.
Infant and medical bags enter Petco Park with no published ceiling
The Petco Park bag prohibition names infant and medical bags as an express exception, and the ballpark publishes no maximum size for them, read September 2026. That absence covers the two pages read for this guide and nothing wider.
Where other Western venues attach a number to the same exception, they attach different ones. Crypto.com Arena caps medical and parental bags at 14 x 14 x 6 inches and sends them through a compulsory X-ray, read September 2026, traced in our look at the arena that refuses clear bags by name. Honda Center allows diaper and medical bags up to 12 x 12 x 12 inches with extra screening, read September 2026. Chase Center folds them into its general ceiling of 14 x 6 x 14 inches, read September 2026. SoFi Stadium goes the other way and lists diaper bags among prohibited items, read September 2026.
An exception with no number is not a wider allowance. It is the ballpark saying the exception exists and leaving the judgement at the gate, which is a different planning problem from a ceiling: there is nothing to measure at home, and nothing to point at in the queue.
Three outcomes come out of that one published sentence. A modest single compartment changing bag reads as obviously inside the exception and moves. A large multi pocket bag with a bottle sleeve reads as a bag with a baby attached and invites a conversation. A wheeled case of baby equipment sits outside anything the wording describes, and nothing published promises it entry.
Only one venue named here puts a price on the same parental problem. According to Allegiant Stadium, read September 2026, its staffed bag check runs at $20 per bag and a stroller check at $20.00, which is a published answer to the question the San Diego pages leave open.
The exception has no floor and no roof. It has a person.
Camera rules at Petco Park run on lens length, and the case is still a bag
Cameras with lenses longer than 6 inches are prohibited at Petco Park, and so are cameras with interchangeable lenses, read September 2026. A compact body passes on both counts. A mirrorless body with a spare lens fails on the second one whatever the first one measures.
The trap sits one step behind the camera. A camera bag is a bag, and the rule prohibits bags outside its three exceptions, so a compact camera that satisfies the lens test still needs a container that satisfies the bag test, according to Petco Park, read September 2026.
Signs and banners carry their own number: up to 8 feet, not commercial, not political, not obscene, and not blocking another guest’s view or the ballpark’s own signage, read September 2026. Children under 36 inches tall enter free on an adult’s lap without occupying a seat, read September 2026, which is a rule about a person rather than about an object.
Several bike racks sit outside the perimeter of the ballpark, in the wording the Padres use, read September 2026. A bag strapped to a bike is still judged at the gate, not at the rack.
Re-entry is permitted at Petco Park, and the digital ticket is the mechanism
Re-entry is permitted at Petco Park, and guests need to get their digital ticket scanned before exiting and scan back in for reentry, in the ballpark’s own wording, read September 2026. One exception is published: on select promotional days the reentry policy does not apply until all promotional items have been exhausted.
Most other Western venues whose re-entry rule Lot Opens has read refuse it. Allegiant Stadium, Sphere, T-Mobile Arena, Chase Center, BMO Stadium, Rose Bowl Stadium, Climate Pledge Arena, T-Mobile Park and Moda Center all publish a version of no re-entry, read September 2026. In Los Angeles the rule runs the other way: a Crypto.com Arena guest who needs to leave and return first reaches a Guest Services Team Member to have the ticket scanned, according to Crypto.com Arena, read September 2026. Lumen Field publishes no rule either way on the pages read.
Whose rule it is decides whether it applies to a bag problem at all. Angel Stadium publishes that there is no in/out parking, and Rose Bowl Stadium publishes that there are no in and out privileges for vehicles, read September 2026: both govern a car, not a person on foot. The Pasadena stadium separately publishes the pedestrian version, that once you exit the stadium you may not re-enter, read September 2026. Anaheim publishes no pedestrian version on the pages read, so its parking sentence answers a different question.
What re-entry buys in San Diego is a repair. Someone who reaches the gate with a two compartment clear tote can walk it back to a car, a room on Park Blvd or a companion who is not going in, and return on the same ticket. At T-Mobile Park the identical walk ends the ticket unless an Event Security Captain or a Gate Host Captain grants an exception, read September 2026, which our account of the Seattle ballpark and its named captains works through in full.
The exception clause deserves a second read. On a promotional giveaway day the repair is unavailable until the items run out, according to Petco Park, read September 2026, and a giveaway date is exactly the kind a once-a-year visitor picks.
Four Lock and Go locker banks at a flat $14, on a page this guide had not read
Lock and Go lockers are available to all guests for all Padres games and select events at a flat $14 rate, according to the San Diego Padres, read September 2026. There are four of them, at the Lexus Premier Lot across from the Home Plate Gate entrance, at Tony Gwynn Dr. and L Street, at the Balboa Gate and at the East Village Gate. They open 1 hour before the gates, and belongings have to be collected no later than 30 minutes after the end of the game.
The arithmetic behind the absence is what makes it expensive. Bags are prohibited outside the three exceptions, so a refused bag has nowhere published to go, and the published fallbacks are a vehicle, a companion, or the re-entry scan.
| Venue and issuer, read September 2026 | Named storage for a refused bag | Price the venue publishes | Published re-entry rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petco Park, San Diego | Four Lock and Go locker banks, flat $14 | Open 1 hour before gates, collected no later than 30 minutes after the end | Permitted, ticket scanned out and scanned back in |
| Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas | Staffed bag check points | $20 per bag, non-refundable | Not permitted, to the lot or the building |
| Chase Center, San Francisco | Bag check by the East Entrance | A $10 donation | Not permitted during any event |
| Oracle Park, San Francisco | The Mobile Locker Co at the Marina Gate | A flat $12 | n/a, no rule on the pages read |
| Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles | Binbox lockers | From $15 per checked bag | Not permitted |
| Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena | Item check-in tents | None published | Not permitted once you exit |
| Lumen Field, Seattle | Walker’s Lockers, Seahawks and full-stadium events only | None published | n/a, no rule on the pages read |
Allegiant Stadium charges $20 per bag at its staffed points, Oracle Park charges a flat $12 through The Mobile Locker Co at the Marina Gate, Chase Center runs its bag check on a $10 donation, and Crypto.com Arena prices Binbox lockers from $15 per checked bag, each read September 2026. Our note on the flat fee at the Oracle Park Marina Gate covers the other Californian ballpark answer to the same failure.
Pasadena answers it with item check-in tents and publishes no price, read September 2026, and Lumen Field names Walker’s Lockers for Seahawks games and full-stadium events and publishes no price either. Two silences of different shapes: a service with a name and no number, and no service named at all.
Six of the twenty-seven venues publish a parking rate, and Petco Park is not among them, read September 2026. Chase Center publishes $7 per hour on an event day to a $35 daily maximum with event parking at $75 on top, Dodger Stadium prices General Parking at $40 in advance and $45 at the gate, and Crypto.com Arena runs a timed rate to a $40 daily maximum. The two San Diego dollar figures belong to a locker and to an accessible space, $14 for a Lock and Go locker and $15 at the 6th and K Parkade for guests with disabilities, so no general parking price for this ballpark appears in this guide.
The clock that says whether a bag mistake is fixable, and the one San Diego does not print
All entry gates open 90 minutes prior to first pitch, and Season Ticket Members enter 2 hours prior at the Park Boulevard Gate and the Home Plate Gate, according to the San Diego Padres, read September 2026. That number is what tells a visitor how much room there is to fix a bag before first pitch, and here it is printed rather than reconstructed from the ticket.
Other Western buildings print it, and the margins are not similar. Chase Center opens doors 90 minutes before Warriors and Valkyries games and typically 60 minutes before other events, read September 2026. Climate Pledge Arena opens 90 minutes before a Kraken puck drop and 60 minutes before a Storm tipoff, and it opens its rideshare pick up 45 minutes after the event ends, read September 2026. Honda Center recommends arriving at least 60 minutes early, read September 2026.
The car side of the clock is published at four of the venues named here. In Anaheim, Angel Stadium opens its parking 2.5 hours before game time and its gates 2 hours before, read September 2026, which leaves 30 minutes inside the grounds and outside the stadium to deal with a bag (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026). The Mariners Garage at T-Mobile Park opens 3 hours prior to game time, read September 2026. In Mission Bay, Chase Center stops admitting public parking 4 hours before an event and starts event parking 2 hours before, read September 2026. The Lumen Field Parking Garage closes 2 hours post event, read September 2026.
Twenty of the twenty-seven venues publish a figure counted from the end of an event, and Petco Park is one of them, read September 2026. Its clock belongs to the lockers rather than to the lots: belongings have to be collected no later than 30 minutes after the game ends, which puts a deadline on the one instrument the ballpark hands a visitor for undoing a decision made at the gate.
A published door time is a budget. San Diego hands out a second chance instead.
Published Petco Park rules that change what a Padres group carries in
- Count the compartments before buying. The clear plastic bag has to be single compartment as well as inside 12 x 6 x 12 inches, read September 2026.
- The clutch is the only small bag with a number of its own, and 5 x 7 inches is that number, read September 2026.
- The clutch is published with two dimensions and no depth, read September 2026, so a deep pouch at the correct footprint is an open question at the gate.
- Infant and medical bags are an express exception with no published maximum size, read September 2026.
- Measure the lens, not the camera body. Anything longer than 6 inches is refused, along with any interchangeable-lens camera, read September 2026.
- A banner can reach 8 feet and still be refused for content or for blocking a view or the signage, read September 2026.
- Children under 36 inches enter free on an adult’s lap and do not occupy a seat, read September 2026, so a family of four can be a party of three tickets.
- Re-entry works on the digital ticket, scanned out and scanned back in, read September 2026, except on select promotional days until the items run out.
Where a San Diego bag plan comes apart between Park Blvd and the turnstile
- Reading the rule as a size limit. The ballpark prohibits bags and then names three exceptions, so a compliant measurement on the wrong kind of bag buys nothing, read September 2026.
- Bringing the clear backpack that worked in Seattle. Lumen Field admits one with no more than 2 pockets; the single compartment clause in San Diego does not, read September 2026.
- Assuming the 4.5 x 6.5 clutch is the Western standard. Six venues named here use it, and Petco Park uses 5 x 7 inches, read September 2026.
- Treating the medical exception as a bigger bag allowance. No maximum size is published for it, which is not the same as a large one, read September 2026.
- Budgeting a bag check fee borrowed from another venue. Allegiant Stadium charges $20 per bag and Chase Center runs a $10 donation, while the San Diego pages read publish no storage at all, read September 2026.
- Counting on re-entry on a giveaway night. The published exception suspends the reentry policy until all promotional items have been exhausted, read September 2026.
- Quoting a Petco Park price for anything. Every dollar figure in this guide belongs to another building, because the two pages read carry none, read September 2026.
Which Petco Park pages carried each rule in this guide
The bag prohibition and its three exceptions, the single compartment clause, the clear box of 12 x 6 x 12 inches, the clutch of 5 x 7 inches, the infant and medical exception, the camera lens limit of 6 inches, the banner limit of 8 feet, the free admission under 36 inches and the re-entry sentence all come from the Petco Park entry policies page, read September 2026.
The bike racks outside the perimeter, the mention of the Trolley, the Coaster and the bus, and the tailgating at Tailgate Park come from the Petco Park transportation page, read September 2026. Neither page publishes a fare, a timetable or a last departure for any of the three transit modes it names.
Figures for Allegiant Stadium, Chase Center, Oracle Park, Crypto.com Arena, Rose Bowl Stadium, Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, Angel Stadium, SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum, Dodger Stadium, Levi’s Stadium, Climate Pledge Arena, Honda Center, Sphere, T-Mobile Arena, BMO Stadium and Moda Center come from each venue’s own published rule and are named beside each one above.
The figures in this guide were verified in September 2026 against the sources named in each section. Bag rules change by event and by promoter, venue pages are rewritten without notice, and giveaway dates change the re-entry clause; check the issuer’s page before you travel.
Entry questions Padres ticket holders ask before the gate
Six answers taken from the Petco Park entry policies page and the Petco Park transportation page, read September 2026, covering the prohibition, the single compartment clause, the clutch of 5 x 7 inches, the infant and medical exception, cameras and re-entry.
Petco Park will prohibit bags with the exception for single compartment clear plastic bags not exceeding 12 x 6 x 12 inches and infant and medical bags, plus clutches and purses no larger than 5 x 7 inches, read September 2026. The rule starts from a refusal, not from a size.
Yes. The exception is written for single compartment clear plastic bags not exceeding 12 x 6 x 12 inches, according to Petco Park, read September 2026. A clear tote with a zipped interior pocket or a clear backpack with a laptop sleeve is a two compartment bag and sits outside the wording.
Clutches and purses no larger than 5 x 7 inches, read September 2026. The ballpark publishes only two dimensions and no depth for it. No other Western venue Lot Opens reads from source publishes 5 x 7, so a clutch bought for another gate is judged here against a different number.
Infant and medical bags are an express exception to the bag prohibition, read September 2026, and the ballpark publishes no maximum size for them on the two pages read. Crypto.com Arena caps the same exception at 14 x 14 x 6 inches and Honda Center at 12 x 12 x 12 inches.
Re-entry is permitted, and guests get their digital ticket scanned before exiting and scan back in for reentry, read September 2026. On select promotional days the reentry policy does not apply until all promotional items have been exhausted, which suspends the repair on giveaway nights.
Cameras with lenses longer than 6 inches are prohibited, and so are cameras with interchangeable lenses, read September 2026. A compact body clears both tests, but the case it travels in is a bag, and the ballpark prohibits bags outside its three published exceptions.
San Diego kept the repair that Seattle, Portland and Las Vegas deleted
Read on its own, the bag rule at 100 Park Blvd is the harsher of the two halves. A prohibition with three exceptions rules out more objects than a limit does, and the single compartment clause disqualifies bags that pass the tape in Inglewood, Las Vegas and Pasadena. Nothing on the two pages read offers a locker to put the losers in.
Read together with the re-entry sentence, the same building turns into one of the three most forgiving in the corpus, alongside Chase Field and Crypto.com Arena. A refused bag at Allegiant Stadium, Chase Center, Climate Pledge Arena, T-Mobile Park, Moda Center, Sphere, T-Mobile Arena, BMO Stadium, State Farm Stadium or Rose Bowl Stadium is a one way walk out of the event, read September 2026. Here it is a scan, a walk to the car and a scan back in, on any date without a giveaway.
