Moda Center Bag Policy: The Sport Decides the Bag Size

A tote that walks into a Portland concert without a second look gets turned back at the same doors three nights later for a Trail Blazers game. Nobody moved the rule between the two events. The rule reads the calendar.

Moda Center Bag Policy: The Sport Decides the Bag Size: Lot Opens event-day guide

The Moda Center bag limit is 10 x 6 x 2 inches for a basketball event and 14 x 14 x 6 inches for every other event, read September 2026. Both boxes already exist elsewhere in the West, where each one means something different.

Moda Center measures a Trail Blazers bag at 10 by 6 by 2 inches and a concert bag at 14 by 14 by 6

A basketball event at Moda Center admits a bag of 10 x 6 x 2 inches, and any event that is not basketball admits a bag of 14 x 14 x 6 inches, read September 2026. A medical or childcare bag reaches that same 14 x 14 x 6 inch ceiling and passes an X-ray at designated locations.

NBA and WNBA games count as basketball, according to the Rose Quarter, and everything else, concerts and hockey included, sits on the larger limit, read September 2026. Neither size mentions transparency, and no separate clutch measurement appears beside either one.

The fixture list comes before the tape measure.

The Rose Quarter writes one bag rule for the campus and lets the calendar pick which half applies

Two buildings share one bag rule here: Moda Center, at 1 N Center Court St in Portland, and the Veterans Memorial Coliseum beside it, because the Rose Quarter publishes the visitor rules for the whole campus, read September 2026. The rulebook belongs to the campus, and inside it the sport does the deciding.

Door times split by tenant. General doors for regular season Trail Blazers games open 75 minutes before tip-off, and for regular season Winterhawks games 60 minutes before puck-drop, read September 2026. Both sentences stop at regular season, so a playoff night has no published door time. A concert has one: doors typically open one hour before the scheduled start time, in the venue’s own wording, which says door times vary and points to the Know Before You Go email.

Honda Center runs the other Western split by tenant, set out in our reading of the two Anaheim bag limits. In Anaheim the hockey night is the strict one.

The Blazers box of 10 by 6 by 2 inches is the everyday limit at Intuit Dome in Inglewood

Intuit Dome caps any personal bag at 10 x 6 x 2 inches, clear or opaque, on every night it opens, read September 2026. Those are the three numbers a Portland basketball ticket puts on a bag, and in Inglewood they never move for a concert.

Screening is where the two buildings part. The Intuit Dome rule requires X-ray on any bag inside its size limit, a line that sits in its prohibited items list rather than in its bag panel, read September 2026, while the Rose Quarter attaches X-ray to the medical and childcare exception. Our breakdown of the Intuit Dome clutch ceiling follows what that does to a family at the Inglewood screen.

The small box travels north. The large one does not travel south.

The 14 by 14 by 6 inch Portland concert bag is the Seattle standard and the Inglewood exception

Climate Pledge Arena admits one bag, clear or other, no larger than 14 x 14 x 6 inches, alongside a clutch of 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches, read September 2026. Intuit Dome prints those same three numbers as the ceiling for a medical or childcare bag, and the Rose Quarter uses them twice, for every non basketball event and for its own exception.

Three buildings, one measurement, three jobs: a norm in Seattle, an exception in Inglewood, a conditional in Portland. Our guide to the Climate Pledge Arena allowance covers the version that needs no fixture check.

Four Western doors, the same two boxes and four different reasons for the size

The four arenas below cover every way the West decides a bag size: one rule for all events, one rule per tenant, and one rule per sport, read September 2026.

Venue and issuer, read September 2026Largest bag the rule admitsWhat decides which limit appliesBest for
Moda Center, Portland, published as the Rose Quarter14 x 14 x 6 inches at a concert, 10 x 6 x 2 inches at a basketball gameThe sport being played, NBA and WNBA on one side and everything else on the otherA visitor who checks the fixture list before packing
Intuit Dome, Inglewood10 x 6 x 2 inches for any personal bag, clear or opaqueNothing. One limit covers every event on the calendarAnyone carrying a phone, a wallet and a key
Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle14 x 14 x 6 inches, clear or other, plus a clutch of 4 x 6 x 1.5 inchesNothing. One limit covers hockey, basketball and concerts alikeArriving with a day bag and no time to repack
Honda Center, Anaheim5 x 9 x 2 inches at a non Ducks event, 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches at an Anaheim Ducks gameThe tenant, and the NHL bag policy the arena cites for Ducks nightsA hockey visitor willing to carry a wallet and nothing more

For a group arriving from a hotel with a day bag already on a shoulder, Climate Pledge Arena wins on size, because the Seattle box applies whatever is playing. In Portland the answer splits by ticket: a concert matches Seattle exactly, a Blazers game matches Inglewood. In Anaheim, Honda Center loses on both nights, since even its larger limit of 5 x 9 x 2 inches sits under the Portland basketball box on two dimensions.

Nine of the smaller Moda Center bags fit inside one of the larger ones

A box of 10 x 6 x 2 inches holds 120 cubic inches and a box of 14 x 14 x 6 inches holds 1,176, so the Portland concert allowance runs about 9.8 times the basketball one at the same doors (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026).

That ratio is why a Portland packing error is rarely a question of one inch. A daypack that clears the concert door is not marginally too big for a Blazers game. It is roughly ten times too big.

The clocks move as well. Garages open approximately 2 hours before an event and Blazers doors 75 minutes before tip-off, so a driver has about 45 minutes on the campus before the first turnstile (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026). Winterhawks doors open 60 minutes before puck-drop, a 15 minute tighter window than the basketball one (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026).

By contrast, Intuit Dome opens its garages about 4 hours before showtime and its arena doors 90 minutes before a game, read September 2026, which gives an Inglewood driver far longer to find the problem.

The clear bag box thirteen Western venues share buys nothing at the Rose Quarter

Thirteen Western venues publish the same clear bag box of 12 x 6 x 12 inches, among them SoFi Stadium, Dodger Stadium and T-Mobile Park, read September 2026. Neither Moda Center size belongs to that group, and neither of them mentions being see through.

A tote bought for the SoFi Stadium screen earns no credit in Portland, and measured against the basketball box two of its three dimensions are over the limit (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026). Our account of the SoFi Stadium transparency clause explains why that tote exists, and our reading of the T-Mobile Park clear bag rule covers the door that judges the same box twice, on inches and on visibility.

No separate clutch size appears here either, so a small second bag has no written status the way the Kia Forum gives one, with a second bag of 9 x 6 inches beside its clear box, read September 2026.

Transparency is not currency in Portland.

Medical and childcare bags stop at the concert ceiling and add an X-ray at designated locations

Medical and childcare exceptions are permitted and will be screened via x-ray at designated locations, and those bags cannot exceed 14 x 14 x 6 inches, read September 2026. The exception has a roof, and the roof is the ordinary non basketball allowance.

The Rose Quarter exception is therefore worth a great deal on one night and nothing on another. At a Trail Blazers game it multiplies the admissible volume by about 9.8 (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026). At a concert it adds no size, only the screening lane.

Honda Center goes the other way in Anaheim, where a diaper or medical bag reaches 12 x 12 x 12 inches, above every ordinary limit it publishes, read September 2026. Climate Pledge Arena lifts the cap for those bags and keeps the inspection.

Bag check exists at the Rose Quarter with no price and no hours on the pages read

Bag check will be available, in the venue’s own words, followed by a nudge to bring smaller bags for a faster and smoother experience, read September 2026. No price appears beside that sentence, and no opening or closing time appears either.

That puts Portland in a third category. Chase Center asks a $10 donation to check a large bag, Oracle Park charges a flat $12 through The Mobile Locker Co at the Marina Gate, Crypto.com Arena prices its Binbox lockers from $15 per checked bag, and Allegiant Stadium charges $20 per bag, each read September 2026. Honda Center states plainly that it does not offer a bag check, and none appears on the Intuit Dome pages read for this guide.

A counter with no published number is harder to plan around than one that charges money.

No re-entry at the Rose Quarter sends a rejected bag back to a garage that opened two hours earlier

There is no re-entry permitted for events at the Rose Quarter, and that sentence covers the campus rather than one building, read September 2026. The walk back to the car only works before entry, which is exactly when the door staff first sees the bag.

Five parking facilities carry names rather than letters, the Garden Garage, the Annex Garage, the West Broadway Garage, the East Broadway Garage and the Benton Surface Lot, according to the Rose Quarter, read September 2026. Street addresses are not published for any of them. Our survey of the three named Seattle garages shows the same naming without pricing further north.

A visitor who arrived by train has no fallback at all. TriMet charges $5.60 for an adult day pass and $2.80 for a youth or honored citizen day pass, and the Rose Quarter Transit Center sits on the red, blue and green MAX lines while the Interstate/Rose Quarter station serves the yellow one, read September 2026. None of those carries a locker.

Seven Rose Quarter rules a first visit to Portland tends to miss

  • Hockey gets the big bag here. A Portland Winterhawks game is not basketball, so the 14 x 14 x 6 inch limit applies, read September 2026. In Anaheim the hockey night carries the smallest bag in the West.
  • The WNBA counts as basketball. The smaller box is written around the sport, not around one franchise, so a women’s basketball fixture takes 10 x 6 x 2 inches, read September 2026.
  • Two door clocks, regular season only. Trail Blazers games open 75 minutes before tip-off and Winterhawks games 60 minutes before puck-drop, read September 2026, and the wording covers neither playoffs nor concerts.
  • The Veterans Memorial Coliseum shares the rules. Rose Quarter guidance is written for the campus, so the building next door inherits the same sizes and the same ban on re-entry, read September 2026.
  • Rideshare has a named curb. Pick up runs along NE Multnomah St and NE Wheeler Ave, right outside the east entry, read September 2026.
  • Approximately is the venue’s own word. Garages open approximately two hours prior to an event, so an arrival plan built on an exact minute is built on a hedge, read September 2026.
  • The dollar figures belong to a transit agency. Day pass fares of $5.60 and $2.80 appear on the transportation page, according to the Rose Quarter, and no parking or bag check price appears anywhere on it, read September 2026.

Five ways a Portland bag plan fails before anyone reaches the turnstile

  • Packing for the building instead of the event. The same doors run two limits, so a bag that cleared a concert in March is judged against 10 x 6 x 2 inches at a Blazers game in November, read September 2026.
  • Arriving with the Western clear tote. The box of 12 x 6 x 12 inches that SoFi Stadium, Dodger Stadium and T-Mobile Park publish has no standing in Portland, read September 2026.
  • Treating the bag check as a priced service. No price and no hours appear on the three Rose Quarter pages read in September 2026, unlike the $20 per bag that Allegiant Stadium publishes.
  • Counting on a trip back to the car. There is no re-entry permitted for events at the Rose Quarter, read September 2026, so the fix has to happen before the first scan.
  • Assuming the medical ceiling scales with the event. Those bags cannot exceed 14 x 14 x 6 inches on any night, read September 2026, so at a concert the exception grants nothing beyond the ordinary allowance.

The venue guide carries every bag rule here, and three answers appear on none of the three pages

The two bag sizes, the basketball test, the medical and childcare exception with its x-ray at designated locations, the bag check sentence, the two door clocks and the campus wide ban on re-entry come from the Rose Quarter venue guide, read September 2026.

The five named parking facilities, the approximate two hour garage opening, the TriMet day pass fares of $5.60 and $2.80, the four MAX lines across two stations and the rideshare curbs on NE Multnomah St and NE Wheeler Ave come from the parking and transportation pages of the same issuer, read September 2026.

Three things appear on none of the three pages: a price or an opening time for the bag check, a closing time for the garages, and a last departure for MAX. Comparison figures for Intuit Dome, Climate Pledge Arena, Honda Center, SoFi Stadium, Dodger Stadium, T-Mobile Park, the Kia Forum, Chase Center, Oracle Park, Crypto.com Arena and Allegiant Stadium come from each venue’s own published rule.

The figures in this guide were verified in September 2026 against the sources named in each section. Bag rules change by event and by promoter, door times change with the sport being played, and venue pages are rewritten without notice; check the issuer’s page before you travel.

Six answers about Moda Center bags, taken from the pages that publish them

Six questions answered from the Rose Quarter venue guide, parking page and transportation page, read September 2026, covering the two sizes, the sport that decides between them and the storage the venue prices nowhere.

What is the Moda Center bag policy?

Moda Center admits a bag of 10 x 6 x 2 inches at a basketball event and a bag of 14 x 14 x 6 inches at any event that is not basketball, read September 2026. A medical or childcare bag shares the larger ceiling and passes an X-ray at designated locations.

What size bag can you bring to a Trail Blazers game at Moda Center?

A basketball event at Moda Center caps a bag at 10 x 6 x 2 inches, and that covers NBA and WNBA games alike, read September 2026. Intuit Dome in Inglewood publishes the same three numbers as its everyday limit for any personal bag, clear or opaque.

Does the Moda Center bag rule change for a concert or a Winterhawks game?

Yes. Only basketball carries the 10 x 6 x 2 inch box, so a concert and a Portland Winterhawks game both fall under the 14 x 14 x 6 inch allowance, read September 2026. The hockey tenant gets the larger bag in Portland, the reverse of the Honda Center arrangement in Anaheim.

Are medical bags and childcare bags allowed at Moda Center?

Medical and childcare exceptions are permitted and are screened via x-ray at designated locations, and those bags cannot exceed 14 x 14 x 6 inches, read September 2026. At a Trail Blazers game the exception is a real upgrade. At a concert it matches the ordinary allowance exactly.

Does a bag have to be clear at Moda Center?

No. The Rose Quarter attaches no transparency requirement to either Moda Center size and publishes no separate clutch measurement, read September 2026. The clear bag box of 12 x 6 x 12 inches that SoFi Stadium and T-Mobile Park publish earns nothing in Portland, and on two of its three dimensions it is larger than the basketball box.

Is there a bag check at Moda Center?

Bag check will be available, in the venue’s own wording, and neither a price nor an opening time appears on the three Rose Quarter pages read in September 2026. Chase Center asks a $10 donation and Allegiant Stadium charges $20 per bag, so a published number is possible.

The Moda Center bag rule belongs to the event, not to the address

Most Western bag rules are a property of the building. In Portland the rule is a property of the ticket, and that moves the decision earlier: what the shoulder can carry is settled by whichever event the seats were bought for, read September 2026.

The consequence lands hardest on the visitor who comes twice. A concert in one season and a Blazers game in the next are the same address, the same garages and the same staff, with a tenfold difference in the bag (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026).
