The clear bag in Santa Clara measures 12 x 6 x 12 inches, and so does the one in Las Vegas
The Levi’s Stadium bag limit is one clear bag of 12 x 6 x 12 inches plus a clutch of 4.5 x 6.5 inches, read September 2026. An oversized bag goes back to the vehicle on the bag policy page, while the A to Z guide sells a locker for it at $20 per bag.

Allegiant Stadium publishes the identical 12 x 6 x 12 inch clear bag and charges $20 per bag to hold what fails, read September 2026. Two NFL stadiums, one measurement. The remedy behind it is where the two buildings stop agreeing.
| Venue, read September 2026 | Published carry-in maximum | Clear bag required | Where a refused bag goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara | Clear bag of 12 x 6 x 12 inches, plus a clutch of 4.5 x 6.5 inches | Yes | The bag policy page returns them to the patron’s vehicle; the A to Z guide publishes bag check at $20 per bag in two lots |
| Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas | Clear bag of 12 x 6 x 12 inches, plus a clutch of 4.5 x 6.5 inches | Yes | Bag check at $20 per bag, closing 1 hour after the event |
| SAP Center at San Jose | Up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches, backpacks included | No | n/a, no bag check and no onsite lockers |
| Oracle Park, San Francisco | Smaller than 16 x 16 x 8 inches, no backpacks, clear ones included | No | Locker truck at the Marina Gate, flat $12 |
| Chase Center, San Francisco | 14 x 6 x 14 inches | No | Bag check on a $10 donation |
| T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas | 9 x 5 x 2 inches | No | Binbox Lockers from $20, closing 45 minutes after the event |
| Sphere, Las Vegas | About 6 x 6 x 2 inches | No | n/a, no area provided to check bags |
Read the third column and the two NFL buildings separate from everything else on the list. Read the fourth and Las Vegas sells a way out of the mistake on one page, while Santa Clara sells one on its A to Z guide and sends the bag back to the car on its bag policy page.
Two NFL stadiums publish one number, and the five non-NFL venues publish five
Of the seven Western venues covered here, exactly two require a transparent bag, both are NFL stadiums, and both set the ceiling at 12 x 6 x 12 inches with a 4.5 x 6.5 inch clutch alongside it (Lot Opens calculation, September 2026). The requirement travels with the league rather than with the city or the sport.
SAP Center at San Jose admits bags up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches, backpacks included, and asks for no transparency at all. Oracle Park refuses every backpack, clear ones included, and caps the rest below 16 x 16 x 8 inches. Chase Center allows 14 x 6 x 14 inches. T-Mobile Arena stops at 9 x 5 x 2 inches. Sphere admits roughly 6 x 6 x 2 inches, which is a phone and a wallet. Five venues, five answers, read September 2026.
Buying a clear bag for Santa Clara therefore satisfies a requirement at exactly one other venue in the West. The object still clears the SAP Center ceiling and the Chase Center allowance on size alone, and it exceeds the T-Mobile Arena and Sphere limits outright. Our reading of the Allegiant Stadium clear bag rule and its $20 bag check covers the Las Vegas half of the NFL pair.
Levi’s Stadium prohibits all bags, and then names the three that get in
Levi’s Stadium prohibits all bags, backpacks and other carriers, in the venue’s own wording, read September 2026. The permission that follows is written as a list of shapes rather than as a single measurement, which is why the rule catches people who read only the inches.
Three things enter. A transparent carrier of up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches qualifies in any of five forms: a clear backpack, a clear fanny pack, a clear bag, a clear handbag, or a one gallon zip top bag. A small clutch of 4.5 x 6.5 inches, described by the stadium as the size of an adult hand, is additional rather than alternative. A seat cushion is the third.
Shape decides more than volume in that list. A one gallon zip top bag sits on the approved list beside the purpose made totes, so the conforming carrier does not have to be bought at all. The clutch is the part groups misjudge: 4.5 x 6.5 inches is an allowance for a phone and a card, not a second bag.
Levi’s Stadium publishes two fallbacks that do not agree, the car and a $20 locker
Bags that do not conform must be returned to the patron’s vehicle, according to the Levi’s Stadium bag policy page, read September 2026. Its A to Z guide, read the same month, publishes bag check run by The Mobile Locker Co. at $20 per bag, in the RV Parking Lot on the West Side near the Hilton Hotel and on Tasman Drive near Marie P. DeBartolo Way at the Northeast entrance. The venue prints both answers, and only one of them costs money.
Three of the six other venues price the same mistake instead. Allegiant Stadium charges $20 per bag at windows that close 1 hour after the event, Oracle Park charges a flat $12 at its Marina Gate locker truck, and Chase Center takes a $10 donation, all read September 2026. Our look at the Oracle Park backpack ban and its $12 locker truck and our breakdown of the Chase Center 14 inch limit set out how each of those counters works.
Distance decides whether the Santa Clara answer is an answer at all. A driver in a stadium lot walks back to a paid space and loses a few minutes. A guest stepping off the VTA Light Rail platform has nothing to walk back to.
Winner by scenario, on the venues’ own terms. For a driver, Levi’s Stadium costs a walk and Allegiant Stadium costs $20, so Santa Clara wins on price. For anyone arriving without a car, Chase Center wins on the $10 donation, and at Levi’s Stadium the answer depends on which of its pages is open. One rule, read twice, changes sides.
VTA Light Rail stops at the north gate, and a train rider has no vehicle to return a bag to
VTA Light Rail drops and collects at Great America Station on the north side of Levi’s Stadium, with service from Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Milpitas, San Jose, Santa Clara and Campbell, read September 2026. ACE arrives directly from Stockton, Lathrop/Manteca, Tracy, Vasco, Livermore, Pleasanton and Fremont, and the stadium states that ACE connects with Caltrain for direct access from San Francisco.
Buses land further out. VTA bus service stops at Tasman Drive and Great America Parkway, and again at Tasman Drive and Calle Del Sol, read September 2026.
One asymmetry inside the same agency changes what a packing mistake costs. Accessible courtesy transportation runs from the Great America train station to the west gates, arranged through Mobility Services on 408-579-4610, and Levi’s Stadium states that no equivalent service operates from the VTA bus stops. Same agency, two modes, two answers.
Rail changes the shape of the rule rather than the rule itself. Whoever parks keeps the bag problem in a trunk that sits inside the lot all evening; whoever rides in carries it into a security line with no way back. Our guide to Caltrain and Muni at the San Francisco end of the corridor covers the northern half of the same network.
The lots open 3.5 hours before kickoff and close 2 hours after the event ends
Parking lots at Levi’s Stadium are scheduled to open 3.5 hours before the start of the event or kickoff, and close 2 hours after the end of each game or event, according to the stadium, read September 2026. That is not the earliest published lot opening among the seven venues covered here, since Allegiant Stadium opens its lots 4 hours before kickoff, but it is still the window in which a bag problem costs little to fix.
Every lot is cashless, and the rate is printed one event at a time. Prices for parking passes may differ by event, and credit card lots will be available but limited on event day and may cost more than pre-paid parking passes, in the wording of the general parking pages. The guide for the Dolphins game on September 20, 2026 then prices day of game parking lot by lot, at $60 in Green Lot 8, $70 in Blue Lot 4 and Blue Lot 6, and $80 in Blue Lot 2&3 and Yellow Lot 5, according to Levi’s Stadium, read September 2026. Of the seven venues covered here, Levi’s Stadium and Chase Center print an event-day parking rate, and Allegiant Stadium, SAP Center at San Jose, Oracle Park, T-Mobile Arena and Sphere print none.
Santa Clara also runs directed parking, which means an attendant sends each car to the next open space and the spaces furthest from the lot entrance fill first. Choosing a spot is not on offer. Two cars from the same group arriving at different times cannot count on parking together, which matters when the bag went into one of them. Details of the lots themselves sit in our Levi’s Stadium parking guide.
Three published limits sit around the pass itself. A parking pass covers a vehicle under 17 feet long and 8 feet wide, per Levi’s Stadium, with buses and recreational vehicles arranged by phone on 408-579-4449. Early Entry Tailgate opens 60 minutes before the gates for season pass holders with prepaid parking in Blue 1 or Green Lot 1, and in the season read here Red, Blue 1 and Green Lot 1 all showed as sold out. No refund exists for a lost, stolen or unused pass; only a cancelled event triggers one.
Laptops, laptop sleeves and soft sided coolers sit on the refusal list
The refusal list at Levi’s Stadium names the container and the contents separately, read September 2026. Laptops are prohibited and so are laptop sleeves, which closes the gap left by carrying the sleeve without the machine inside it.
Cameras survive up to a point. A lens longer than 3 inches is prohibited, and tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are refused whatever they are attached to. Power banks larger than the phone they charge are named as well, which turns an ordinary travel accessory into a gate conversation.
Coolers are refused including soft sided ones, and that is where the Bay Area splits in half. Oracle Park refuses hard sided coolers and admits soft sided ones, read September 2026, so the bag that carried lunch into a Giants afternoon is a return trip at a 49ers evening in the same metro area.
Two more entries decide what a group brings through the door. Signs and banners larger than 2 feet by 3 feet are refused, and helmets are prohibited unless they were purchased at the team store.
A medical bag earns a wristband, and the wristband is the whole exception
Medical bags are permitted at Levi’s Stadium subject to inspection, and the guest carrying one receives a wristband or sticker confirming that the inspection happened, read September 2026. The wristband is the visible half of the exception: the bag is not waved through, it is opened and then marked.
Two other venues answer the same question in different words. At Allegiant Stadium the published exception covers necessary medical items and gives no dimension for the bag carrying them, read September 2026, so the container stays on the prohibited list while its contents are exempt. Chase Center takes the opposite route and counts a medical bag inside the same 14 x 6 x 14 inches it gives everyone else.
Santa Clara sits between the two. The waiver at Levi’s Stadium covers the size and not the screening, and the wristband is what makes the exception portable inside the building. The material read here names a medical exception and names no diaper bag exception, so a parent has no published sentence to point at.
Packing decisions that get made in the driveway, not at the gate
- A one gallon zip top bag is named by Levi’s Stadium as an approved clear carrier, so the conforming bag is a kitchen drawer item rather than a purchase.
- The clutch allowance of 4.5 x 6.5 inches rides alongside the clear bag, not instead of it, which is the only way two containers legally enter together.
- Anything that will not fit goes back to the vehicle, so the sorting belongs where the vehicle is. Lots open 3.5 hours before kickoff, and that is the window in which the walk costs least.
- Laptop sleeves are refused alongside laptops and tripods are refused outright, while a camera with a lens under 3 inches enters, so emptying a work bag changes less than shortening a lens.
- Soft sided coolers are refused here and admitted at Oracle Park, so a cooler that worked in San Francisco does not travel south.
- Parking passes cover vehicles under 17 feet long and 8 feet wide, which sends an oversized van to the phone line rather than to the gate.
- The stadium address is 4900 Marie P. DeBartolo Way, on Tasman Avenue near the 101, the 237, the 880, Lawrence Expressway and San Tomas Expressway, so a late arrival is a road problem before it is a bag problem.
Five ways a bag plan fails here, and the one the stadium prints in capital letters
One instruction appears in capital letters in the Levi’s Stadium material: PLEASE ARRIVE EARLIER TO AVOID LAST-MINUTE GATE PRESSURE, read September 2026. Every failure below is a version of arriving too late to fix something.
- Reading the clear bag rule as a size rule. Bags, backpacks and other carriers are prohibited first, and a short list of transparent shapes up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches is admitted afterwards. An opaque bag inside the inches is still refused.
- Treating the car as a backup while arriving by rail. The published fallback is a return to the patron’s vehicle, and a passenger off VTA Light Rail at Great America Station, off ACE from Stockton or Livermore, or off Caltrain, does not have one.
- Reading one Levi’s Stadium page and stopping. Allegiant Stadium runs three windows at $20 per bag, and Santa Clara prints the same price on its A to Z guide while its bag policy page mentions no bag check at all.
- Arriving at the end of the parking window. Lots open 3.5 hours before kickoff and directed parking sends late cars to whatever space comes next, so the walk back to a rejected bag lengthens as the lot fills.
- Leaving the bag in the car and the car in the lot. Lots close 2 hours after the end of each game or event, per Levi’s Stadium, so anything abandoned there has a deadline attached to it.
Where each rule above sits on levisstadium.com, and what the site does not publish
The 12 x 6 x 12 inch clear bag, its five approved forms, the 4.5 x 6.5 inch clutch, the seat cushion, the medical bag wristband, the prohibited items list and the sentence about returning a bag to the patron’s vehicle all come from the Levi’s Stadium bag policy page, read September 2026.
The 3.5 hour lot opening, the 2 hour closing, directed parking, the cashless lots, the 17 foot and 8 foot vehicle limits, the Early Entry Tailgate window of 60 minutes and the refund rule come from the parking and parking FAQ pages at the same domain. VTA Light Rail, the VTA bus stops at Great America Parkway and Calle Del Sol, ACE, the Caltrain connection and the Mobility Services asymmetry come from the public transportation page, all read September 2026.
None of those pages prints a parking price. They state that prices for parking passes may differ by event and that credit card lots may cost more than pre-paid parking passes, so the day of game rates quoted here come from the Levi’s Stadium guide for the Dolphins game on September 20, 2026, read September 2026, and each one is named with its event and its lot. Comparison figures for Allegiant Stadium, SAP Center at San Jose, Oracle Park, Chase Center, T-Mobile Arena and Sphere come from each venue’s own published rule and are named beside each one above.
The figures in this guide were verified in September 2026 against the sources named in each section. Venue windows change by event, transit spans and headways change with each service change, and rail timetables change by season; check the issuer’s page before you travel.
Six answers for a first trip through the Levi’s Stadium gates
Six answers drawn from the Levi’s Stadium bag policy, parking and public transportation pages, read September 2026, covering the 12 x 6 x 12 inch clear bag, the two pages that disagree about bag check, and the 3.5 hours the lots stay open beforehand.
One clear bag of up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches enters Levi’s Stadium, in a clear backpack, fanny pack, bag, handbag or one gallon zip top form, plus a clutch of 4.5 x 6.5 inches and a seat cushion, read September 2026. All other bags, backpacks and carriers are prohibited.
On one of its pages, yes. The A to Z guide publishes bag check by The Mobile Locker Co. at $20 per bag in two lots, while the bag policy page says bags that fail the rule must be returned to the patron’s vehicle, read September 2026. Both lots are a walk from the VTA Light Rail, ACE and Caltrain arrivals.
Yes. Both stadiums set a clear bag maximum of 12 x 6 x 12 inches with a clutch of 4.5 x 6.5 inches, read September 2026. The fallback differs by page: Allegiant Stadium runs bag check windows at $20 per bag, and Levi’s Stadium prints the same price on its A to Z guide while its bag policy page names no storage at all.
Only clear ones. A clear backpack of up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches is an approved carrier at Levi’s Stadium and every opaque backpack is prohibited, read September 2026. Oracle Park is stricter again and refuses every backpack including clear ones, so the same object fails there.
Yes, and they are marked. Medical bags are permitted subject to inspection, and the guest receives a wristband or sticker confirming that the inspection happened, read September 2026. The published exception is medical; the material read here names no separate diaper bag exception at Levi’s Stadium.
Lots are scheduled to open 3.5 hours before the start of the event or kickoff and close 2 hours after it ends, according to the stadium, read September 2026. Every lot at Levi’s Stadium is cashless, and each event guide prices its own lots, from $60 in Green Lot 8 to $80 in Yellow Lot 5 for the Dolphins game on September 20, 2026.
A clear bag rule is a league standard, and what sits behind it is a local decision
Two stadiums in two states publish the same 12 x 6 x 12 inches because the requirement arrived with the league rather than with either city. What arrives with the city is everything behind the door: three windows charging $20 per bag at Allegiant Stadium, and in Santa Clara two pages that disagree, one sending the bag to the car and one selling a locker at the same $20.
Which makes the rail platform at Great America Station a costly convenience. Arriving by train removes the car, and the car is the only fallback the Levi’s Stadium bag policy page publishes.
